Le Questionnaire de la Doom
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is she heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Aradia's around 5'4"-ish. For her body type, think Twiggy - very skinny, and almost flat-chested.
2. How old is she?
About 16 in human years, about 7 and a half in Alternian solar sweeps.
3. Describe her posture. Does she carry herself well or does she slouch?
Her posture's pretty straight for the most part, as far as teenagers go. Slouching is mainly reserved for when she's either bored or acting like a creeper.
4. How is her health? Is she fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
She is very healthy and quite fit! Her physical strength isn't spectacular, but she's a DEX- and INT-based character anyway, so it's fine. Her particular brand of immortality means that she can still get sick, but it won't permanently kill her.
5. How does she move? Is she clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
She has a sprightly, energetic way of moving. She's very agile, it's a sort of mischievous, pixie-like agility, rather than elegant or elf-like. If you had to compare her to one fantasy creature or another.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does she perceive herself in the mirror?
Aradia's beautiful, especially the older she gets. She has dimpled cheeks, long curly hair, and she's at least starting to get some curves. She used to be a little self-conscious about her teeth, which (not being sharp) are unusual for a troll, but nowadays she doesn't really care about that. She wears makeup, specifically red lipstick and red mascara.
7. Describe her complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
It's light grey. I imagine it's got a little more texture to it than human skin, but not by much.
8. Describe her hair: color, texture, style.
It's butt-length at least, jet black, and smooth, with a natural loose curl. In canon she always wears it loose, even when it would logically get in her way.
9. What color are her eyes?
Still grey for now (with yellow sclera, of course). They'll fill in with dark red as she gets older.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
Bright orange horns, in spirals like a bighorn sheep. Yellow fingernails.
11. What are her chief tension centers?
Not sure she has any!
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does she have six of the same suit?
Nowadays she always wears her God Tier outfit, which is very, very bright red and it's got a gear on the front. She usually wears the hood down, probably because it takes significant effort to get her hair back into it. It's pajama-level comfy and never gets dirty, so why wear anything else?
Prior to acquiring that, she wore long skirts and black t-shirts with her symbol (Aries) on them, and sneakers. It's typical for trolls to have an entire closet filled with the same outfit. She probably also had a FLARP costume or two, but we don't know anything about her character(s).
Generally speaking, though, you could classify her style as utilitarian. This is mainly because she has little fashion sense of her own. However, that's not to say she doesn't like dressing up - just that someone else should probably choose her outfit.
13. Do her clothes fit well? Does she seem comfortable in them?
Yes and yes. Godhoods are custom-made and comfy as fuck.
14. Does she dress the same on the job as she does in her free time? If not, what are the differences?
She's from a comic. She wears the same thing all the time.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
sportz bra + boy shortz
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Her voice is very middling. It's not especially high- or low-pitched, loud or soft, or coarse or smooth. She could probably sing either soprano or alto, but neither range would feel entirely natural.
2. How does she normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does she talk easily, or does she hesitate?
She used to speak with a pr0n0unced h0ll0wness, which I'd characterize as a very flat, monotonous affect. Since coming back to life, she's dropped the 0's in favor of a bright, upbeat tone. She talks easily, and enjoys conversations and storytelling.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
In writing, she rarely if ever uses punctuation or capital letters. In both writing and speech she often expands her contractions, but not always.
4. What language/s does she speak, and with how much fluency?
Canon's not super clear on this. Alternia does have its own language and writing system, but at the same time all the trolls can communicate just fine with the English-speaking humans. It's sort of handwaved and lampshaded at the same time. For RP purposes I generally say she speaks both, but it's flexible.
5. Does she switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
Nope.
6. Is she a good impromptu speaker, or does she have to think about her words?
A little of both, I think. Depends on the occasion. Sometimes her words sound rehearsed even when they're not.
7. Is she eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
She's eloquent and has a large vocabulary, which she uses with precocious abandon. She's rather less articulate when she's angry or flustered, though.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is she book-smart or street-smart?
Aradia's quite intelligent! Like all trolls, she's pretty much self-educated, but she loves to explore and discover and learn new things.
2. Does she think on her feet, or does she need time to deliberate?
She's a quick thinker. And if she does need time, she's got all the time in the world, am I right?
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is she more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
She's more pragmatic than sentimental.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
She's self-educated, as is usually the case in troll culture. The human concept of "school" would be fascinating to her. (You just go there every day and they teach you stuff? Awesome!!)
5. What are her areas of expertise? What, if anything, is she interested in learning more about?
Time!! She's an expert on time. Also ghosts. Also, she knows rather more than most people would want to about horrorterrors. She's interested in learning more about Earth and humans.
6. Is she an introvert or an extrovert?
Extrovert. Hanging out with friends is her favorite way to pass the time.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is she even-tempered or does she have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
She's cheerful and laid-back, content to occupy the role of neutral observer for the most part. In canon, her actions are all about fulfilling her destiny, and later, cleaning up the mess Lord English made; for her own part she has little emotional stake in them. Mostly she's interested in following the story to its conclusion just to see what happens.
8. How does she respond to new people or situations? Is she suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
Generally she is relaxed, just watching the world go by. New people are particularly interesting, since she's spent the last three years interacting with the same 24 people almost exclusively.
9. Is she more likely to act, or to react?
Frequently neither. But of the two, she's more likely to react than act.
10. Which is her default: fight or flight?
Depends! She doesn't particularly enjoy fighting, and she won't pick a fight she can't win.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does she appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
Puns are a staple of Alternian humor and also Aradia is terrible and secretly loves them. She also appreciates pranks, as long as they don't go too far (and yes, putting a bucket on someone's head is waaay over the line!) Jokes and riddles are probably her favorite, though. Gallows humor... eh, maybe? She's not sensitive enough about the gallows itself to be intentionally humorous. Bathroom humor is dumb though.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does she deal with them?
She does not, although as a ghost/robot she showed a lot of symptoms of depression. She dealt with them by not being a ghost anymore.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined her as a person?
1) The FLARP incident. She ignored Terezi's advice, sought revenge for Tavros, and got killed for her trouble.
2) Sgrub. It's hard not to be fatalistic when there is literally only one path your future can follow and it's not necessarily optimal.
3) Coming back to life (!!!!) When this happened, she got her proper emotions back, and could feel optimism and hope for the first time in ages. To keep that going forever, she decided never to die again, 'cause fuck that shit. This has colored every decision she's made since.
14. What does she fear?
Hmm... Well, she doesn't fear death, out of familiarity. She doesn't fear eldritch horrorterrors, because she's used to them and they're really not so bad, even if their motives are unknowable and their visages maddening to look upon. I think what she'd actually fear is... losing herself. Becoming again what she once was, or worse. Because she was terrible, and reminders of her past self make her cringe super hard. Losing her freedom, too, she'd hate that.
15. What are her hopes or aspirations?
Basically? For everything to turn out okay in the end. Like, in the big scheme of things, not necessarily for individuals, but of course she'd also like her surviving friends to continue surviving for a while if that's a thing they can do.
16. What is something she doesn't want anyone to find out about her?
There isn't really anything. She'll freely admit her past self was horrible. I suppose mainly she wouldn't want them to have to experience her at her worst, though.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with her parents.
Like all trolls, instead of "parents" Aradia had what's called a lusus, an animal that takes care of a troll in their youth and continues as a partner and companion in adulthood. Provided they survive that long, anyway. Hers was vaporized sweeps ago, at the same time that she herself was. She remembers her lusus fondly, but is no more sad about her passing than she is about anyone else's.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
None!
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom she is close? Are there ones she can't stand?
Nope! But she technically has a clone (although which one's the original and which is the clone, it doesn't matter). She hasn't met the Handmaid, but she knows her story and feels bad for her. She has met Damara, from the alternate universe Beforus, and they don't get along at all. Aradia's glad to be nothing like her nihilistic, foul-mouthed DNA-twin, whereas Damara proooobably hates Aradia's guts on principle.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom she considers part of her family? What are her relationships with them?
Not particularly.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Her best friend of all time is Sollux Captor. It's unknown how they met, but her warmth and even temper is a perfect offset for his rudeness and unpredictable mood swings. They might be a couple in one of the red quadrants, but it's unclear even to them, and they're okay with being BFFs in the meantime. I mean, the universe might be ending, there's no rush.
6. Does she have other close friends?
Yep! I put together a whole CR chart for them, even. Look how nicely formatted it is!
7. Does she make friends easily, or does she have trouble getting along with people?
She makes friends very easily. She's open about herself and her history,
8. Which does she consider more important: family or friends?
Friends, for sure. "Family" is kind of a nebulous concept to begin with.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has she been married more than once?
Single!
10. Is she currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
Not that I know of.
11. Who was her first crush? Who is her latest?
Her first crush was Troll Indiana Jones. Her latest crush is also Troll Indiana Jones. One does not simply get over Troll Indiana Jones.
12. What does she look for in a romantic partner?
As long as they're not a creep, she's not picky. She'd want someone who respects her independence and free spirit.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does she relate to them? If no, does she want any?
Nope, nope, nope, and nope. She has no maternal instincts whatsoever. Her idea of "daycare" is "trap the grub under a cardboard box and leave them there all day." She gets along all right with children - their playful nature matches hers nicely - but the younger they are, the less she understands or wants to do with them. Grubs just kind of exist; human babies, on the other hand, she finds disgusting.
14. Does she have any rivals or enemies?
She used to have sort of a rivalry and/or enemyship going on with Vriska, but it stopped after she and Vriska brutally murdered each other. They've long gotten it out of their system and have since made up as friends. (In troll parlance, "friend" and "enemy" are the exact same word.)
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does she fall on the Kinsey scale?
She's bi, which is the norm for her species. Boys and girls both have their strong points!
16. How does she feel about sex? How important is it to her?
On her home planet, the law was roughly "get laid or die." Without that hanging over her head, and considering that she's immortal now, she's not in a hurry.
17. What are her turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Wouldn't you like to know. (Seriously though I don't know.)
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does she fit type?
Well, she's associated with the Aries of the Western zodiac. Supposedly, Aries folks are natural leaders, blunt, forceful, ambitious, competitive, and arrogant. Aradia is none of these things. She works behind the scenes, tries to be nice to people, and while she can be a little blunt or insensitive sometimes, she does feel bad about creeping people out. She's always played games not to win, but to have fun (or fulfill her destiny, whichever).
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in her life?
Neither! She hangs out with ghosts a lot (almost exclusively, at her canon point), and technically lives in the afterlife, helping her dead friends find peace. She is the psychopomp, it's her.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
She does, sort of, but it's not entirely conventional by Earth standards. After all, she grew up on a planet where murder was totally legal (even if she didn't partake in it herself), and survival of the fittest was the law from which all other laws derived. But she does try to be nice to people - even if the greatest kindness you can give them is death. And she does view death as a kindness. It beats the hell out of suffering or eternal boredom!
4. How does she regard beliefs that differ from hers? Is she tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
She is both tolerant and curious. Other people's beliefs interest her, even if she doesn't personally agree with them. If they're super obviously wrong about something, she may feel obliged to point it out, but she's not one to press the issue.
5. What prejudices does she hold? Are they irrational or does she have a good reason for them?
"Humans sure are weird!"
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is she rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
It has literally never mattered.
2. What is her social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected her?
As a maroon-blood, she occupied the lowest stratum of troll society. Now, that troll society no longer exists. She has never been particularly bothered by either of these things. It does, however, mean that her natural lifespan would have been maybe 25 sweeps, but she died and became immortal long before that would have been an issue.
3. Where does she live? House, apartment, trailer? Is her home her castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does she share it with others?
On Alternia, she had her own house, which she designed herself as a toddler. I like to imagine she had an obstacle course taking up most of the first floor, and then her respiteblock was upstairs. It is currently a pile of ash and rubble on a dead planet. She lived with her lusus.
In the afterlife, she typically couchsurfs. Sometimes she'll sleep in a memory of her own house or of Sollux's (when he's around), though. Depends on what she feels like.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does she spend her money on?
The usual. Movies, books, posters, miniatures, tabletop RPG materials...
5. What does she do for a living? Is she good at it? Does she enjoy it, or would she rather be doing something else?
It's not really a "living," per se, but she's an afterlife guide. She loves it, it's her passion.
6. What are her interests or hobbies? How does she spend her free time?
Her INTERESTS include ARCHEOLOGY, EXPLORING, and ROLE PLAYING. She spends her free time being UNINTENTIONALLY CREEPY.
7. What are her eating habits? Does she skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
Her favorite food is bugs, if that tells you anything. She's totally capable of eating human food, but she prefers good ol' home cooking. She's actually a pretty good cook, though, if you like bugs. Restaurants are kind of a novelty to her, and she's not interested in mind-altering substances.
